About St Felix

Roman Catholic Church in Haverhill, Suffolk

Welcome, a letter from Father Michael

Dear Friends,

Welcome to St Felix Parish Website. The new St Felix RC Church in Haverhill - 2012

The Church of St Felix is situated in the town of Haverhill. We are tucked away in the corner of Suffolk close to Cambridgeshire and Essex in the Diocese of East Anglia. Since the 1960's a temporary building was used as our centre for Worship. So welcome to our new church completed in February 2012.

We are a diverse and multicultural community, each member welcomed, valued and encouraged to share the rich cultures they bring with them. We have, within our parish, a highly respected and much sought-after school where children are encouraged to, not only learn and develop academically but also to experience the love of God and share that love in their relationships with one another.Interior of the new St Felix RC Church - Haverhill - 2012

I was ordained to the Priesthood later in life after spending many years in the teaching profession, and living in this town for several years helped me to know many of the residents. It gives me great pleasure to witness the growth and the changes which have taken place in this community.

St Felix parish is also responsible for some Chaplaincy support in our local prison - work I find very important and fulfilling as part of my Ministry.

Should you wish to visit us or if you are moving into our area be assured of a warm welcome.

Perhaps you might like to make a contribution towards our New Church Building fund; Parishioners past and present and generous donors over many years helped us to raise all but the final amount needed to build our new church, thus helping our dream become a reality. You will find details on this website on how and where to send donations.

With every blessing

Father Michael Teader
Parish Priest, Haverhill.

Our History

Present Day
The parish of St Felix is a vibrant, welcoming, dynamic and rapidly expanding community. People feel at ease, at home and amongst friends. There is a great sense of community. Sunday Masses in particular are a feast of music with strong participation from the youth of the parish. We are a multicultural congregation and enjoy sharing the traditions of our Polish, Filipino, Indian, East European and Indian parish members in our worship and social events.

The Parish of St Felix was formed with the appointment of the first Parish Priest - Father B Hindle. Work began on a new church at Princess Way to accommodate the growing congregation. The plan was to build a hall, which would serve as a church in the immediate future then to build a church and presbytery on the site. These plans never came to fruition and the hall became the church.

The first Catholic Church was opened in Withersfield Road on the site of the present Horace Eves Close. Older parishioners describe it as ‘the Hut’, indicating a wooden construction dedicated to St. Felix and St. Edmund.
