New Church Project

Our new church is built! Can you help with fundraising?

Why Help if it is Already Built?

The estimated cost of the New Church was £980,000. In order for construction to begin the diocese of East Anglia loaned St Felix £150,000 and it is this overdraft that we still need to clear. Our new church can accommodate future generations of our growing parish and will provide an inspiring focal point for the community

The previous church was built in 1965 as a temporary building designed to accommodate 180-200 people. Forty five years on, as our congregation continued to grow, we regularly had in excess of 240 worshippers at mass.

Our old Church was literally bursting at the seams for the major liturgical services at Christmas and Easter.

Following a structural survey it was found that our previous building was almost unsound which meant that extending or improving the existing church was not a viable option.

Our Need

The Parish had an urgent need for a new church with the capacity to seat a congregation of over 260.

The Story...

Approval to build a new church was received from our Bishop and East Anglia Diocesan Trustees.

A design was developed by NPS Architects in Norwich and planning permission was granted by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The inspiring vision for the new church incorporates the practical requirements of a modern parish - flexible space, a side chapel and meeting room.

Construction of a new St Felix Roman Catholic Parish Church began in May 2011 and was completed in February 2012.
